Item Number: DM4029 The Declaration of Intention: Partially printed document issued in Rush County, Indiana. Certificate issued to Albert Wiers dated 6 August 1856 and signed in Rushville, Indiana by Geo[rge] Hibben, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Rush County. The Certificate shows that Weirs was a 23 year old native of Prussia who emigrated from Europe and arrived in New York in October of 1852. By his oath, Weirs agrees to renounce his allegiance to "Lewis, or whoever may be the reigning King of Prussia." Docketing on the reverse, signed again by Hibben, indicates that the Intention was filed on 6 August 1856. Size: 8 1/4" high x 10 7/8" wide. Excellent condition Background Information: George Hibben, the court clerk of Rush County, Indiana, was born in Highland County Ohio in 1818, the son of Thomas Hibben and Nancy (McFadden) Hibben. A prominent merchant in Rushville, he served as President of the Rushville Branch of the State Bank of Indiana, a director of the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Indianapolis railroad, and a cemetery trustee. Hibben moved to Chicago sometime before 1865 and started Hibben & Co. He died on March 11, 1891 in Chicago. We have not been able to locate any further record pertaining to the immigrant Albert Wiers.
