Item Number: DM4015 The Surety Bond: Bond posted and signed by: Milburn Hobson, Joseph Hanna, and William Marshall in the amount of one thousand dollars dated July 5, 1830. The bond requires that Hobson who has been commissioned by the Governor as a Justice of the Peace in Jackson County, "faithfully discharge the duties of his office . . . and pay over all monies which may come into his hands by virtue of his office". The instrument was signed and acknowledged in the presence of the Court Clerk, William Crenshaw. Size: 10 3/;4" high x 7 7/8" wide. Age toning and small separations at folds, otherwise in nice condition. Background Information: Milburn Hobson (ca 1793 – 1839) was the son of William Hobson and Sarah Milburn. He married Mary Waskom in Shelby County Kentucky in 1816. He appears in the 1820 Census in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana. One of the bondsmen, Joseph Hanna, is likely the son of Robert Hanna of Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He was born about 1779 and died in Jackson County, Indiana in 1834. He married Elizabeth Hammers about 1810. After her death, he married Elizabeth Nichols in 1832 in Jackson County. The court clerk, William Crenshaw, came to Jackson County from Charlotte County, Virginia with his wife, Catherine (Chaney) Crenshaw. He was one of Jackson county’s first settlers.
